Our Alaska Corps Teams are placed in the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska, where team members work in some of the most remote and stunning landscapes on Earth.
Whether you’re building trails through the vast tundra of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, preventing forest fires in the wild, or restoring critical wildlife habitats, you’ll be immersed in real-world conservation work in one of the last untamed places in the U.S.
Teams typically live together in tents and work on short-term, focused projects known as “hitches” that are guided by SCA field leaders. Alaska’s diverse ecosystems, from the rugged coastlines of the Kenai Peninsula to the majestic mountain ranges of Denali, provide the perfect setting for developing practical skills in conservation while experiencing the great outdoors like never before.
***Note: The Alaska Wildland Fire Program is currently on hiatus.***
As an exciting extension of the SCA Alaska Corps, the SCA Alaska Wildland Fire Team has partnered with the National Park Service to tackle the growing wildfire crisis. This program is vital in Alaska, where wildfires are increasingly threatening the state’s wildlands and communities.
The Alaska Wildland Fire program offers an opportunity to inspire and train the next generation entering the field of wildland firefighting.
The program aims to increase the number of trained firefighters while bolstering the overall firefighting capacity in Alaska.
Crew members on this team play a key role in fighting fires, protecting Alaska’s wilderness, and helping to shape the future of the conservation field, all while working in some of the most dramatic and remote landscapes in the world.
SCA offers a variety of individual placements in Alaska, where you’ll be involved in some of the state’s most vital environmental efforts.
Whether you’re monitoring the iconic salmon runs along the Kenai River, one of the world’s most stunning natural landmarks, or hosting visitor presentations featuring champion Alaska sled dogs in Denali National Park, you’ll gain hands-on experience while exploring some of the most pristine and rugged landscapes on the planet.
This is your chance to contribute directly to preserving Alaska’s wilderness, from its vast forests to its intricate river systems, all while living in some of the most spectacular outdoor environments in the world.
