Our Program:

The SCA’s Urban Green NYC is designed for high school students and recent graduates (ages 14-19). Join us for paid outdoor conservation projects, where you’ll gain hands-on experience and learn about:

  • Environmental Education: Explore the diverse ecosystems of NYC.
  • Climate Change Awareness: Understand the challenges and solutions.
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI): Learn about environmental justice and the importance of equitable access to nature.
  • Green Jobs Preparedness: Build skills for a rewarding career in conservation.
  • Financial Literacy: Develop money management skills for your future.

This competitive program equips you with valuable knowledge and experience to make a difference in your community and beyond.

Our Programs

The SCA has been fielding crews in New York City since 1999. Applicants must be ages 14-19 to participate in NYC Urban Green programs. Crew members must be currently in high school or recent high school graduates.

Join The Crew!

  • Field Leader- Stamford Urban Forestry Young Adult Crew

    The SCA is seeking a motivated Field Leader (age 21+) to supervise a crew of young adult members (age 18+) through the completion of Urban Forestry Service projects in Stamford, Connecticut.

    The crew will plant and maintain trees, conduct invasive species management and support regional permaculture.

    The field leader must train the crew on urban forestry skills, coordinate with partners to ensure the timely completion of projects and transport the crew and work materials with an SCA provided vehicle.

    Mandatory Paid Leader Training –  Valparaiso, Indiana: March 10-22

    Program Dates: March 25 – Nov. 25  Pay: $900/wk.

Professional Development

The focus of the program is on outdoor conservation stewardship projects. Also included will be lessons and activities about environmental education, climate change awareness, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI), green jobs preparedness and financial literacy. This program is very competitive and not all applicants will be accepted.
