You’re invited to get outside the day after Thanksgiving as part of a larger effort to turn #BlackFriday greener. In honor of #GreenFriday, we’re highlighting three parks and programs with “green” in their name where you’ll find SCA crews lending a hand.

1. Green Mountain National Forest

Established in 1932, Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont is one of only two national forest areas in New England. Here, SCA interns help preserve the forest by performing educational outreach to park visitors, environmental stewardship, invasive plant removal, trail maintenance and recreation site maintenance.

2. Green Lake National Fish Hatchery

At this large-scale Maine fish hatchery built in 1973, SCA interns help rear endangered Atlantic salmon. Activities include releasing juvenile and adult Atlantic salmon, collecting biological samples for disease screening, feeding adult and juvenile broodstock, cleaning rearing units, conducting monthly growth monitoring of juvenile and adult salmon and stocking multiple life stages of Atlantic salmon.

3. City Green Urban Farm

Combining garden and educational experience, SCA interns gain a holistic, hands-on experience at City Green Urban Farm in New Jersey. Our members come away from the program with both horticultural skills and valuable outdoor educational experience. City Green promotes access to green spaces in the community with locally grown vegetables, ecologically vibrant gardens, and experiential garden opportunities.
