The Student Conservation Association will achieve a major milestone this year when we place our 100,000th service member! We will mark this momentous occasion with a year-long #SCA100K celebration, one that showcases SCA members, alumni, and others as they shape stronger communities and a more resilient world. Throughout this, our 65th year, there will be many opportunities to participate in this commemoration.

Currently, we are seeking 10 accomplished alumni to serve as “standard bearers” who will represent the entirety of SCA’s 100,000 alumni. Please use this form to nominate yourself or someone else for this highly visible, year-long role.

Please keep these three things in mind when you submit your nomination:

  1. As a group, the 10 standard bearers should portray the full spectrum of SCA – every era, demographic, program, agency, geography, and community
  2. These individuals should remain active in the broader conservation field, making a difference and living an example for others to emulate
  3. They should be eager to celebrate their SCA roots and able to periodically participate in our #SCA100K campaign

From the original SCA volunteers at Grand Teton and Olympic National Parks in 1957, through our subsequent alliances with national forests and wildlife refuges, the introduction of urban conservation programs in the 1970s, our landmark Greater Yellowstone Recovery Corps, and the Presidential Citizens Medal presentation to SCA Founder Liz Putnam, SCA has blazed a trail of youth service and stewardship all across America – a movement that today exceeds 130 conservation corps nationwide. And that’s what this campaign is all about. We intend to celebrate all youth who serve our lands and waters, all partners who mentor the next generation of conservation leaders, and all the supporters who make these transformative opportunities possible.

Most importantly, #SCA100K will advance both the legacy and promise of youth-led conservation corps. Sixty-five years ago, Liz Putnam modeled SCA on the Depression Era Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, the proposed Civilian Climate Corps is poised to address our world’s most daunting environmental challenge while providing meaningful jobs for young people whose career paths have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Corps are a proven solution – and #SCA100K is a heartfelt salute to all who serve our public lands.
