Last month, the U.S. Senate passed the Great American Outdoors Act in a 73-25 vote. The bill next heads to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration. The group will vote on its passage on July 22, 2020.

Supported by SCA, this bipartisan proposal will create meaningful service opportunities on public lands, place thousands of young people from all backgrounds on a professional pathway, and benefit our national parks and forests by allocating funds to improve visitor centers, trails, bridges, and more.

Please locate your representative and call or email to ask them to support the Great American Outdoors Act. You can call the U.S. House of Representatives’ main line at 202.224.3121 and be directed to your representative’s office, or contact them through a public email address or web form on their official website.

Please tell your elected official:
  • The Great American Outdoors Act is vital to creating jobs, aiding small businesses, and reigniting our economy
  • The bill will finally address the burgeoning $20 billion maintenance backlog on our public lands, ensuring these national treasures will thrive well into the future
  • The Act will increase recreational access for all Americans, regardless of where they live or come from, a huge step forward for environmental justice
  • How your work with the Student Conservation Association has shown you firsthand the benefits of service to the land.

With your support, this bill will benefit our national parks and forests, as conservation corps improve visitor centers, trails, bridges, and more.

The critical need to protect our public lands goes hand in hand with the need for a youth Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). As emphasized by SCA CEO & President Stephanie Meeks in a recent op-ed, a youth CCC can create a hopeful pathway for the next generation by addressing critical issues surrounding the economy, diversity, and environmental justice.

Thanks to the support of many, SCA continues to build the next generation of conservation leaders, protecting our parks and public lands now and into the future. Please consider helping us reach our $100,000 goal by July 31 and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar!
