SCA began programming in Connecticut in 2008 with community crews in Stamford. Since then the program has expanded to reach a number of cities in the state. Over summer 2013, the SCA Connecticut Community Program ran crews in Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk, Bridgeport and New Haven.
Currently, SCA CT Community Programs are primarily run during the summer, focusing on offering high school students the opportunity to work hands-on in local public green spaces. Partnerships with environmental organizations, municipalities, and workforce agencies help to create a motivating and educational employment opportunity for high school youth. Crews typically function as groups of 10 high school members with 2 adult crew leaders working five days per week, with one of those days focused on environmental education opportunities. Crew projects may include: trail clearing and building, invasive plant removal, rock and timber work, public outreach, and in special cases, wildlife monitoring. The reward for successful completion of the program is an overnight camping trip for each crew.
Some volunteer activities and school-year programming opportunities are also available. These are often one-day service events, typically in the spring. SCA CT is currently working to offer more school-year opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age or in high school and typically include being a resident of and/or student in the city in which the program runs. Other requirements vary by position.
