Backcountry Steward Internship-High Peaks South (24 week)

Starts May 17, 2015 • NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Ray Brook, NY

In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot, or canoe to perform all aspects of trail work to help protect natural resources. This will require camping overnight in the areas assigned at various times throughout the season.

Backcountry Steward Internship-Dix, Giant, Hurricane (24 week)

In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot, or canoe to monitor public use and prevent negative impacts to natural resources. This will require camping overnight in the areas assigned at various times throughout the season.

Backcountry Steward - Essex Chain Lakes Primitive Area

Starts May 17, 2015 • NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Newcomb, NY

Patrol and maintain campsites on backcountry lakes and ponds via canoe. Weeks will consist of remote outdoor work, and the ideal candidate will be self-directed, independent, and comfortable with solo use of a canoe.

Backcountry Steward Internship-Catskill Park Region 3

The Catskill Forest Preserve Back-Country Steward Position would be a great opportunity to gain hands on work skills while also experiencing the recreation opportunities of the beautiful Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York.

Natural Resources Intern

Starts April 13, 2015 • Shenandoah National Park, Luray, VA

Spend a season in a National Park! The first 6 weeks of this position will focus on macroinvertebrate monitoring. The next 5 weeks will involve peregrine falcon restoration and the remaining week will involve forest pest suppression.

Backcountry Steward Internship-Siamese Ponds

Starts May 17, 2015 • NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Warrensburg, NY

In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot and camp overnight in the areas assigned to monitor public use and prevent potential impacts to natural resources.

Biological Technician - Botany Intern

Starts June 1, 2015 • Rydell and Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuges, Erskine, MN

Primary duties are monitoring plant populations in response to patch burn grazing. Plant identification and data management will consume the majority of time during this position.

Biological Science Intern -- Invasives Species Control (Short Term)

Starts May 17, 2015 • Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge, Pleasanton, KS

Primary duty is to identify & control invasive & noxious vegetation with standard equipment and herbicide, but also conduct biological surveys & monitoring of flora & fauna; collect & organize field data, assist with prescribed burn, & more!

Backcountry Steward Internship-Lake Ontario Dunes

Starts May 17, 2015 • NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Dexter, NY

In this internship you will access the backcountry by foot or canoe along the fragile dune system on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. Duties include: educating the public on the importance of the dune system and protection of the natural resources.

Interpretation Intern

Starts February 22, 2015 • Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park, Stonewall, TX

Interpretive guide to lead tours of “Texas White House” at Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. Interns will live and work on the historic working cattle ranch that served as President and Mrs. Johnson’s refuge, showplace, and homeplace.

Shorebird Monitor Intern (South District)

Starts April 27, 2015 • Cape Cod National Seashore, Wellfleet, MA

This SCA will serve as a shorebird monitor, conducting field work to protect state and federally listed ground nesting shorebirds.

This SCA will serve as a shorebird monitor, conducting field work to protect state and federally listed ground nesting shorebirds.

Aquatic Ecology Intern

Starts June 1, 2015 • Cape Cod National Seashore, North Truro, MA

Your responsibilities will include: using non-motorized watercraft (canoe/kayak) to sample water quality in kettle ponds, (50%); assisting with other aquatic resource monitoring projects, (30%); providing laboratory analysis.

Aquatic Ecology Intern

Starts March 19, 2015 • Cape Cod National Seashore, North Truro, MA

You will use non-motorized watercraft (canoe/kayak) to sample water quality in kettle ponds (50%), assist with estuarine resource monitoring projects (30%), and you’ll provide laboratory analysis and written documentation of field sampling (20%).

Kettle Pond Vegetation Monitoring Intern

Starts June 14, 2015 • Cape Cod National Seashore, Wellfleet, MA

You will be assisting with kettle pond field surveys to assess conditions at Cape Cod National Seashore.

Visitor Services Technician

The Bison Range is recruiting a Visiting Services Technician intern to assist public use staff to help with the large numbers of visitors and to provide enhanced interpretive opportunities.

Biological Science Technician Intern

Physical Science Technician Intern

Physical Science Technician Intern at Mammoth Cave National Park. The primary responsibilities include assisting in operating and maintaining the Mammoth Cave National Park air quality station, climate monitoring stations, and cave meteorology stations.

Native Plant Propagation Intern

Starts June 8, 2015 • North Cascades National Park, Marblemount, WA

This intern will assist in North Cascades National Park in the plant propagation and revegetation program with a focus on youth education, native vegetation propagation and revegetation techniques as well as non-native plant control.

Interpretation Intern

Starts May 1, 2015 • Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, Lincoln City, IN

Perform natural & cultural interpretation at the Memorial Visitor Center and surrounding grounds. Conduct tours, give orientation, show films, assist at information desk, & collect entrance fees. Develop & implement Junior Ranger Day programs for kids.
