The intern will assist the forest in expanding its successful workforce investment board partnership with the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program to the Cumberland Ranger District.  The partnership, which is in its third year of existence, engages underserved youth in employment opportunities performing high priority conservation work.  Additionally, the intern will serve as a liaison between the district and multiple universities, colleges, and institutes of higher learning that have been identified as possible sources of youth volunteerism.  The district has many such partnerships initiated but needs communication, coordination, and planning assistance to make the most of them.  The partnerships will focus on conservation work in the highly visible Red River Gorge and Clifty Wilderness areas.
