Assist the Visitor Center manager in coordinating volunteers, promoting the Center, assisting with special programs/events and staffing the information desk, 55%; coordinate and assist with special events such as Coastweeks, National Wildlife Refuge Week, Winter Carnival Spring Break Programming, Earth Day and the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival, 35% assist the Education Specialist with the presentation of interpretive and educational programs to school groups, special-interest groups and the general public as needed, 10%. You may be involved in a mix of one or more of the following during the season: leading nature or bird walks, leading intertidal walks, developing and conducting evening and senior center programs.

This position is not eligible for an AmeriCorps education award.
  • Headquarters for the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge at the Alaska Islands & Ocean Visitor Center in Homer, Alaska. Homer is a beautiful seaside community with a maritime climate and vibrant arts scene.
  • First Aid & CPR, National Association for Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide, Master Naturalist Training, numerous classes and seminars throughout the year in natural resource topics.
  • Kayaking, boating, hiking, SUP, Xcountry ski, snowshoe, tidepooling, arts, Kenai Peninsual College Kachemak Bay Campus courses.
