Project Tasks:  With support and guidance from park staff and the Public Risk Management Program (PRMP) staff at WASO, the intern will participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary safety committee which will:

-Gather water related incident data from 16 partner agencies along the 48-mile boundary of the park;
-Organize and enter data utilizing Arc GIS 10 series, MS Excel spreadsheets with graphical displays, and MS Access;
-Conduct basic quality analysis and quality control of data, compose summary reports and display data spatially using Arc GIS to create basic map products;
-Communicate the findings to technical and non-technical park staff and partners;

In order to gain an understanding of water safety concerns in CRNRA, the intern will:

-Complete CRNRA’s Safety training;
-Ride-along on law enforcement river patrols;
-Float the Chattahoochee River in canoes, kayaks or rafts;
-Interview staff from partner agencies and various park divisions.

Qualifications:  Intern should be active in their local community and fluent in English and Spanish.  The selected candidate must have boating experience and be comfortable around water in a river environment.  Intern must have excellent communication skills to craft and deliver effective messages for different audiences.  Intern must be able to respectfully communicate with people who express diverse points of view, and must have excellent analytical skills, be highly organized, and be able to take initiative and work independently.  Intern should be skilled at synthesizing data and information into a well-written document using ESRI Arc GIS 10 series, MS Excel, MS Access.  Intern should have both a basic understanding of and great interest in injury epidemiology and water safety.  Intern should possess a bachelor’s degree and be pursuing a master’s degree in a related field.  Intern must have their own vehicle to use during working hours.
