Join the US Forest Service, Gallatin National Forest, Bozeman Ranger District for an adventure in outdoor recreation services.  Located in scenic Bozeman, Montana the Bozeman Ranger District has a very busy recreation program.  We manage 12 developed campgrounds, 10 historic rental cabins, and over 75 busy trailheads.  Attractions include large resevoirs and alpine lakes, scenic waterfalls, abundant wildlife viewing and awe inspiring mountain vistas.  Our clientel includes the rapidly growing Bozeman and Gallatin Valley population, Montana State University students, visitng recreationalists and international tourists.  Many travelers to Yellowstone National Park, ninety miles south of Bozeman, include recreational activities on the Bozeman Ranger District to their travel itineraries.  The intern will assist local managers with maintenance of developed recreation sites including vandalism repair, trash collection, routine maintenance and cleaning, and installation of signs.  The intern will also provide educational information to visitors to the Bozeman District by answering questions, offering information, and installing informational signs at trailheads and other sites.  Interns will also collect information concerning needed repairs to facilities.  The interns will work as part of a team of two Forest Service Recreation Technicians and two volunteers.
  • Bozeman, Montana is located in southwest Montana, approximately 1.5 hours north of Yellowstone National Park. Bozeman is located in a wide agricultural valley surrounded by the high peaks of the Bridger, Gallatin and Madison Ranges. The population of Bozeman is approximately 38,000 people, with almost 100,000 people residing in Gallatin Country.
  • The intern will be trained in defensive driving, first aid and cpr, bear safety, visitor contact safety, and recreation site management and maintenance.
  • Recreational opportunities in the area are numerous including: hiking, backpacking, climbing, boating, horseback riding, motorized sports, mountain biking, and fishing.
