SCA Hudson Valley AmeriCorps partners with state and non-profit agencies to address the conservation needs of the Hudson River Watershed region. Corps members are placed at individual host sites along a 200 mile corridor from the lower Adirondacks to New York City, joining together regularly for trainings, service projects, or other events. Declared a National Heritage Area, the Hudson River Valley is often referred to as the landscape that defined America.

The member will assist with environmental education programs for youth groups and the general public, planning and presenting onsite and outreach programs. The member will perform stewardship and conservation projects including invasive species management, habitat improvement, wildlife surveys and monitoring, and maintenance of native plant demonstration gardens. The member will assist with trail development and improvement projects.

Essential Functions of the Position Include:
-Prepare and present educational and interpretive programs for school groups and the general public, both onsite and outreach. Interact with Nature Center visitors, providing information and answering questions. 
-Conduct Stewardship and Conservation projects including invasive species management, native plant initiatives, habitat enhancement projects, wildlife surveys and monitoring projects
-Assist with trail maintenance and development projects.
- Participate in all SCA Corps-wide trainings and service projects, as well as project evaluation and reporting.

Required Academic Qualifications:
BS/BA in natural sciences, environmental education, or related field, and experience working with children. Prior experience with field surveys and gps use is helpful, but not required


  • Member will receive training in plant identification, invasive plant control methods, site orientation and interpretation. Opportunities for additional training include Project Wet, Project Wild, and iMapInvasives.
