Position ID
Works at Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie and the visitor centers for both providing visitor servcies which includes: history talks (American Revolution - World War II), safety talks, roving interpretation, staffing visitor center desks. Collects NPS entrance fees as well as operating cash registers for non profit bookstore. Assists with special events including planning and staffing the event. Provides curriculum based talks for school aged children at both forts throughout the year. Assists staff with a variety of projects including but not limited to: brochure and exhibit design, developing new interpretive programs, transcribing historical documents, etc.

This position does not qualify for an  AmeriCorps Education Award.
  • Work site varies between three locations around Charleston, including a fort in the middle of Charleston Harbor.
  • First Mate for boat operations, First Aid/CPR/AED, basic interpretation, and a variety of safety training.
  • Opportunities to work with staff on a variety of special events and projects to enhance knowledge of NPS and the sites. They will receive a reciprocal pass allowing him or her to explore many historical and cultural sites in Charleston area on own time.
