Interpretation and Customer Service Internship

Position ID
·         Collect fees from visitors on entrance to the site.
·         Interpretation in historic buildings. This includes wearing period costumes (provided) and educating visitors on the building’s history, and providing general information on the rest of the site.
·         Provide educational tours to school groups.
·         Sales of souvenirs in the Museum and replica of Bridger’s post.  Interpreting exhibits at both locations.
·         Work “behind the scenes” cleaning exhibit rooms and curating artifacts.

  • • Ft. Kearny is located in north central Wyoming in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. It is between the town of Buffalo and city of Sheridan. Buffalo is 20 minutes south and has a population of 4,625. Sheridan is 30 miles north with a population of 17,698.
  • Orientation to the site and its operations provided. Training materials on the site’s history and relevance will be provided. Emergency and safety procedures will be thoroughly explained.
  • North central WY is rich in Bozeman Trail, Native American, mining, and ranching history. Museums, historic sites, and artist communities are prevalent. Hiking, camping, biking, fishing, site seeing available.
