Position ID

The horticultural intern will be responsible for the day to day activities required to maintain the formal gardens & arboretum for the enjoyment of visitors and event guests. Activities include all aspects of garden maintenance including watering, pruning, turf maintenance, weeding (includes invasive removal around house), planting, mulching, and interacting in a positive manner with visitors. Other responsibilities may include: preparing for and working with arboretum volunteers; leading garden and house tours to visiting groups; assiting with on-site educational programs; assisting with plant labeling and accessioning as time permits.
  • Welkinweir, the 197-acre home of Green Valleys Watershed Association, a nonprofit environmental education and watershed protection organization, is offering 2 to 3 month summer intern positions to provide individuals interested in the field of horticulture, forestry, or related field with a firsthand experience working at a nonprofit public garden and nature preserve.

    Located in northern Chester County, Welkinweir features a 55-acre arboretum surrounding a historic estate house, ecologically diverse forest, meadow, and riparian habitats. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound, including hiking, birding, and water activities.
