Job Description for Student Fall Intern assisting with the Fall 2014 Green Streets Initiative with the Newark Sustainability Office:
 
General Summary of Duties/ Responsibilities
 
1. Help prepare communication materials on the websites:  City of Newark Office of Sustainability website & Green Streets Initiative website: - such as updates, blog posts, website content and fact sheets.
2. Research, compile, and assemble on website reports on benefits of trees to urban environments 
3. Gather information about Urban and Community Forestry Certificate programs and curricula and assist Sustainability staff in promoting the adoption of a Certificate program at Rutgers-Newark. 
4. Researching urban forest management, policy and outreach strategies in cities across the U.S. to help establish a strong Newark program.
5. The Student Intern will provide assistance as needed to the Sustainability Project Manager.
6. Assistance with outreach to Newark Public Schools for the fall 2014 program.
7. Assist the Green Infrastructure fellow with tree location mapping, as needed.
8. Provide general support to the Newark Office of Sustainability. 
 
 
Requirements:
Currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science/studies/biology, natural resources, forest science/management, environmental policy, sustainability or other conservation-related field. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university. 
Website content development and video editing skills are desired.
 
Qualifications:
Strong verbal/written communications and computer skills
An ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Organized with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
Creative and flexible
Demonstrated interest in urban environmental issues, environmental justice, and/or urban policy
Willingness and ability to work with youth groups and community organizations as well as municipal staff from multiple agencies
Skills and experience in interpreting natural resource data related to sustainability is a plus
