Bio-tech Intern will assist wildlife refuge biologist with daily operations of a National Wildlife Refuge. The position will involve early morning, evening and some weekend work. Employee will be hiking, wading in wetlands, operating UTV’s, canoes and or kayaks, and riding in airboats. The bio-tech intern will be involved in the following activities:

- Data entry
-Waterbird and other bird surveys identifying western birds by sight and sound;
-Plant surveys and monitoring;
-Waterfowl and other bird capture and banding; and
-Predator management
- Invasive weed management and eradication
-Public meetings and presentations

Bio-tech intern will be working in the field in an arid climate, where conditions can sometimes be hot with intense sun and occasional biting insects in the Summer and cold with heavy snow in the winter

On the job training provided

  • Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is located 45 miles north of Salt Lake City in northern Utah.
  • First Aid/CPR, Leave No Trace, and environmental education opportunities such as bird banding and bird plant identification.
  • Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is located within a half-day drive of outstanding outdoor recreation activities in southern Utah including Arches, Zion, and Canyonlands National Parks and world class skiing within an hours drive.
