Interns will participate in archeological field survey and excavation, artifact handling and conservation treatment, analysis, and database entry. They will assist with researching the history, background, and previous work of archeological sites where work has been proposed, in order to create research designs. They will assist with writing final reports and trip reports documenting field work, archival and documentation, and administrative requirements stemming from fieldwork.

Interns will have a valuable “hands on” experience, and will participate in laboratory work, archeological survey and excavation, artifact curation and conservation, archives management, outreach and education efforts, and give presentations at professional meetings. Archeological field work may involve strenuous physical work in hot, humid conditions, involving long hikes.

The internship duration will be 12 weeks; the position’s start and end date will be negotiated during the interview process. Housing is not available for this position.
  • Intern will be based in Tallahassee, FL, but may travel with NPS teams across the southeastern U.S.

  • Tallahassee, FL is home to two major research universities and two community colleges. There are numerous state and local parks, bike trails, rivers and sinkholes that offer swimming and other water activities.
