Message to SCA members in the field
While hope remains for a resolution, SCA is operating under the assumption that the federal government will suspend operations at midnight Friday. SCA is committed to minimizing any shutdown-related impacts and below you will find details on the actions we are taking to support you and recommendations on steps you should take in the next 24 hours.
Housing
If you are living in on-site housing, SCA has confirmed you will be permitted to reside there during a shutdown. However, if you run into housing, risk management, or other issues during normal business hours, please contact your SCA representative. After hours, you may dial the SCA hotline at
1 800 YO SOGGY (1.800.967.6449). Copy this phone number now and keep it with you as access to emails or websites may not be available during a shutdown. SCA program representatives will be standing by throughout the weekend to assist you.
Living Allowances and Health Insurance
SCA will continue to provide these benefits to you without interruption through any suspension of government operations.
Food and Personal Needs
Remember, if you are living on site, federal facilities will be closed and normal transportation may not be available during a shutdown. Be sure you have enough food and drink to last at least into next week. If you require any medicines or other personal items, please be sure you have enough on hand.
Personal Conduct
Should the government close, work of any kind will be strictly prohibited. Please inquire about and strictly follow the government shutdown rules for your site. As a matter of safety, we also ask that you refrain from venturing into the park as typical support and response staffs may not be available. Please remember that you continue to represent SCA at all times, and we ask that you do so responsibly.
On-Site Contacts
Site staffs also will be prohibited from working during this period, meaning you may not be able to communicate with your supervisor. Be sure to identify the site's emergency staff and have their contact information written down in case it is necessary.
SCA will be monitoring this situation and consulting with our federal partners as the budget deadline approaches. We will email you with a further update tomorrow (Friday) and, if warranted, over the weekend. Should a shutdown occur at Friday midnight, we will also post weekend developments on our website, www.thesca.org [1].
In any event, we will be back in touch with you by email on Monday with an assessment of the situation at that time and any necessary additional actions. All of us at SCA appreciate your understanding of this situation and we stand ready to support you throughout.
Thank you.
Please be sure to write down the SCA hotline and carry it with you:
