Sierra Club spring internship - Washington, DC

The Sierra Club's Labor, Workers’ Rights and Trade Program is now accepting applications for our Spring 2010 Internship position in Washington, D.C.

*The Sierra Club is the country’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization. The Labor, Workers’ Rights and Trade Program works to ensure that US trade policy does not contribute to climate change or threaten workers’ rights. *DESCRIPTION:* The internship with the Sierra Club's Labor, Workers' Rights, and Trade Program can include research assistance and writing, assisting with grassroots and event organizing, media outreach, and working with U.S. and international nongovernmental organizations.
Interns will also be asked to participate in some administrative work, but the overall nature of the internship is highly substantive, focusing around specific projects as determined by the applicant and supervisor.

*QUALIFICATIONS:* Strong research, writing and computer skills are necessary. Prior study and/or interest in the environment, international trade, globalization, economics, law/pre-law, and/or social justice desirable, as well as an awareness of current events.
Familiarity with office procedures and conference or event planning helpful. Applicants fluent in Spanish are highly encouraged to apply.

*CAPABILITIES:* The ideal candidate will be organized and willing to learn; he or she will perform well under the pressure of deadlines with an ability to work independently while adapting to rapidly changing situations.

*EXPECTATIONS:* The internship is designed to be full-time; however, accommodations can be made for an exceptional applicant. This internship will begin in mid-January and run until the middle or end of May, with specific start and end dates to be determined.

*COMPENSATION:* All internships are UNPAID, though academic credit can be arranged.
