I discovered the SCA’s Veterans Fire Corps (VFC) a year ago and was hesitant to join until the recent mega fires swept across America. Before joining I was working as an Administrative Assistant in a Cardiology department and grew tired of holding a dead end position. I couldn’t find a college major which suited me. Working indoors wasn’t fulfilling my goal of working toward a greater cause. Upon thoroughly researching the program, I gave it a shot. Since joining the VFC, I have found purpose in my life and feel that I belong in this line of work. Fire Fighting demands likeminded and hardworking citizens. The VFC has started my career in Wild Land Fire Fighting with a meaningful direction and a sense of purpose.
