Environmental Educator & Conservation Field Crew Member
Hello! My name is Kara Shay Roberts, but some call me Cookie! I’m from Granville, Ohio and just graduated from Ohio University in December, having studied Marine, Freshwater & Environmental Biology. I participated in SCA’s Alternative Spring Break in the Everglades in 2012, and I’ve been interested in the SCA ever since. I’ve spent a lot of time hiking and exploring since I moved to Athens, Ohio, where I went to school. Some other key passions of mine include learning about and participating more in food culture of different communities and riding horses, which is something I’ve been doing since I was nine years old. I came to Bear Brook with the goals of expanding my knowledge of what it means to live and operate in a tight knit community, as well as getting experience working with the earth through conservation. I am loving my time here; Bear Brook feels more and more like home each day. I wish everyone the opportunity to be engaged in a similar community at some point in their lives.
