I grew up in rural Maine and worked for my regional conservation corps through high school and into college. I went to Hobart College, in upstate New York where I studied Art and English. I moved West and worked a variety of jobs from woodworking instructor to snake handler to after-school teacher to toy disigner's assistant. Needing a summer jopb I led high-school trail crews in Oregon. I then lead Pacific Crest Trail crews, a Leader Team and a Desert Restoration corps for the SCA. I am excited to be mapping the beautiful Mt. Baker National Forest and returning to the Pacific Northwest. When not in the backcountry like music, food, sleeping in beds, reading, writing, planning adventures and pickling things.
In 2012 the SCA has turned my life in a new direction. Today I no question on where my life is going. The quality of individuals in Veterans Fire Corps program is beyond anything I ever thought. Being able to work with veterans again helped me adjust from the Corps and smoothly interact with crew and agency. Every team in unique and the motivation drive at our job keeps me going.
My name is Timothy Gurnett and I am from Omaha Nebraska. My conservation experience started in the Boy scouts where I participated in various types of public land projects. I obtained the scouts highest rank of Eagle Scout. I joined the Navy when I was 17 and spent 5 years Active duty as a Military policeman, I am currently a drilling reservist with the Navy and have been for the past 3 years. I first volunteered with the SCA as recreation management intern in Gunnison Colorado. While I was there I maintained back country trails, conducted back country water samples, assisted law enforcement officers, and maintained back country facilities. I used this first internship to explore different the jobs our public lands had to offer and more importantly to find out if a career working on the public lands was for me. Turns out I loved everything about it. Shortly after my internship was over I was already perusing the SCA website to find my next opportunity and that's when I found the Veterans Fire Corps. I had heard about wild land fire fighters but I never really gave it much thought, so I figured I would give it a try. Long story short I have been with the VFC every summer since. Outside of the SCA, I am a avid outdoorsman, I have completed and lead countless backcountry expeditions. I recently completed a Veterans Outward Bound expedition, dog sledding in Minnesota. I am a senior at the University of Nebraska working to obtain a double major in Criminal justice and Environmental Studies with a minor in geography. Every season brings new experiences and new challenges.I can't wait to get started.
Hi. I’m Jackie and I’m back for a fourth year as the Program Manager of the SCA Idaho AmeriCorps program. I started with SCA just over 13 years ago with the New York Adirondack AmeriCorps program and have bounced around in a variety of positions since then from intern, to recruiter, to temporary cook, to crew leader, to most recently Education and Service Learning Manager with SCA's Mass Parks AmeriCorps. In addition, I took a brief sojourn away from SCA spending two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala and going to graduate school with the Audubon Expedition Institute. In my free time I love to play the guitar, hike, and bake, but am game for just about any outdoor adventure if someone is willing to teach me. Montana born and bred, I am glad to have this opportunity to once again connect with the landscape of my youth.

Kristen comes from Michigan, where she grew to love the land, lakes and changing seasons. She has joined in on conservation projects in many different landscapes, and is now eager to explore a beautifully remote part of Idaho, work hard, and learn a lot from everyone around her. Kristen enjoys hiking, swimming in open water, idly kicking a soccer ball, being outside at night, trivia, and making pizza.Kristen MrozowskiSCA Idaho AmericorpsProject Leader 2970 Panther Creek Road, Challis, ID 83226Cell: (208) 914-0396Office: (208) 756-6269
