SCA’s Conservation Leadership Crew is a fee-based, hands-on conservation service experience that adds an exciting new dimension to SCA's National Crews. You will walk away with concrete outdoor skills certifications and a focused training on leadership, wilderness medicine, and outdoor education, all within SCA's hallmark structure of giving back to mother nature through hands-on conservation service.
In a Leave No Trace Awareness or Trainer course, become an expert in living sustainably in the outdoors as you teach your skills to your fellow crew members. Practice the techniques to take care of each other while exploring Wilderness Medicine topics and practicing your splinting. Curious about the local flora, fauna, and culture of Alaska? Explore it first hand while giving back as a steward of the land. Ready to learn and develop your own personal leadership style - and use it in real life situations? The Conservation Leadership Crew program is for you.
The Conservation Leadership Crew is an adventure of a lifetime - whether you’re exploring and conserving the pristine Alaskan countryside or putting in the miles on America’s iconic National Scenic Trails, you’ll be taking your conservation goals to the next level and preparing to be a true conservation leader, all while making a difference in the great outdoors.
Alaska is known by many names; The Last Frontier, the Land of Midnight Sun, the 49th State. It is a land of vast geography including active volcanoes, calving glaciers, extreme tides, North America’s highest mountain and a vast network of wildlife abundant wetlands. Come explore and protect some of Alaska’s wildest places in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.
Ready to hit the trail? Live the life of a thru hiker as you backpack and work to protect the Appalachian Trail in the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire. You’ll cover 90 miles of terrain including 4,000 foot alpine peaks, lush valleys, and swimming holes- all on foot, learning and exploring along the way.
How to Apply:
- Applicants must be current high school students between 15 & 19 years of age. High school students graduating in 2014 are also eligible for this program.
- Candidates must complete a MySCA profile and Conservation Crew application. See full instructions on how to apply.
